The Ovate
An
individual who wants to become an Ovate has to train in divine healing
and be able to communicate with the spirits. The art of healing or the
ability to apply natural law to the body and mind. is another of
the many requisites that a druid will also learn to master.
For the heart,
mind or body has to be in tune with nature, or ailments
would inflict them. The Ovate learns to create and
apply natural remedies; by using
plants, the four elements, and solar and lunar power, to help them through out their life. An Ovate also must be able to predict the future. If you
are considering becoming an Ovate you must know the magic of nature and
it is said that they are the gifted ones who can alter their shape,
control weather and move objects with their mind.
Ovates
are expected to know medicine, astronomy, poetry and music. You can
only become a student because you have excelled and have superior
knowledge of the problems of life.
An Ovate was known as a prophet in
ancient times. They were relied on, by the tribe for being healers. In modern times, an
Ovate is only a person who studies herbs or healing with Druidic context,
or one who enters a Druid Order to study in this area
They may have been midwives, due to their ability in healing.. Their skills included reading omens
– like the flight of birds, movements of clouds, or the prediction of weather. Ovates
main task was to heal by using their experience or knowledge of herbs and
spells. Some would best describe an Ovate as a witch or similar to a
witch due to the healing and magic capabilities that they seemed to possess.
The
Ovate as master of prophecy could travel back in time; maybe read the
Akashic Records. Since the Akashic Records could only be
understood by someone who had a grreat deal of conception pertaining
to nature and its wonders.
Ovates
believed that people did not die and leave. They believed that they
awaited reincarnation. Since the Ovate could speak to them, they could
gain wisdom that was not available to others. During the past
timeframe, this experience did not happen often. In fact it was a very
rare occurrence that people could return from a near death experience
and live to tell about it. Of course modern times and sophisticated
medical techniques make that happen much more frequently.
Ovates
have a connection with the Other World or with death, which makes them
experts in the rite of Samhuinn - the feast for the departed on the
last day of October. What we call Halloween Day. Ovates believe that
death is not morbid because they are concerned with the new life formed
out of regeneration.
